From July 22nd to 28th, 2019, the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment(SuDBE2019)was held in the UK. The conference consisted of SuDBE2019 (Reading) and & International Forum on Green Building and Healthy Building (Cambridge). The conference was organized by the Chongqing University, the University of Reading, UK, and the University of Cambridge, UK. And it was co-organized by China Green Building Council, National Center for International Research of Low-carbon & Green Buildings (Ministry of Science & Technology), Joint International Research Laboratory of Green Buildings & Built Environments (Ministry of Education), Technical Innovation Strategic Alliance of Healthy Building Industry, Southwest Green Building Base, China Academy of Building Research, China Southwest Architectural Design and Research Institute Co.,Ltd., Tsinghua University, Aalto University of Finland, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University College London, Lawrence Berkeley Co-organized by the National Laboratory, the Imperial College London, and the IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal. 220 experts and scholars from 12 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, Japan, Finland, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, France, Sweden and China attended the meeting, and there were 55 overseas personnel among them.

From July 22nd to 25th, 2019, SuDBE2019 (Reading) was held at the University of Reading, UK. Professor Dominik Zaum, the Vice President of the University of Reading, Professor Youwei Wang, the Director of the China Green Building Council, and Mr. George Adams, former Chairman of the Royal Registered Equipment Engineers Association (CIBSE), and the Chairman of the Conference, Professor Baizhan Li of Chongqing University delivered a speech in succession at the opening ceremony. Professor Bjarne W. Olesen of Technical University of Denmark, Professor Runming Yao of University of Reading, a National High Level Expert of Chongqing University, Professor Chimay Anumba of the University of Florida, an Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Professorate senior engineer Jun Wang, the Chairman of China Academy of Building Research, made a keynote report of the conference.
SuDBE2019 (Reading) conference set up 18 sub-meetings, 36 experts were invited to make a special report at the conference, including Professor Christopher Pain of Imperial College, Professor Tim Broyd of University College London, Professor Phil Jones of Cardiff University, Professor Tony Day of International Energy Research Center, Professor Hiroshi Yoshino of Tohoku University, Professor Risto Kosonen of Aalto University, Professor Steve Rowlingson of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Larry Bellamy of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, Professor Armando Oliveira of the University of Porto, Portugal, Dr. Cathal Hoare of the University of Dublin and Dr. Niamh Murtagh of the University College of London. etc. The chairperson of the sub-meeting issued a certificate of honor and souvenirs for each invited expert.
More than 90 experts and scholars from Chongqing University, University of Reading, Tsinghua University, etc., research institutes, design consultants and equipment manufacturers made oral reports. The conference selected the“Best Report Award”,“Best Poster Award”and “Best Paper Award”, and Professor Andrew Baldwin presented the honorary certificate to the winners. On July 25th, the organizing committee arranged for the participants to visit the British Building Research Institute (BRE) and watch a number of green building technology application demonstration projects on-site.
From July 26th to 28th, 2019, International Forum on Green Building and Healthy Building were held at the University of Cambridge, UK. More than 100 experts and scholars from China Green Building Council, China Academy of Building Research, British Marish Consulting, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Tsinghua University, and Zhejiang University attended the forum. National High-level Expert of Chongqing University, Professor Runming Yao of the University of Reading hosted the forum. Professor Alan Short of the University of Cambridge, UK, Professor Youwei Wang, Director of the China Green Building Committee, Professor Paul Linden of the University of Cambridge, Prof. Qingqin Wang, Deputy General Manager of the China Academy of Building Research, Mr. Jaya Skandamoorthy, President of Marish Consulting, UK, and Professor Angui Li of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology made special reports. After the forum, on July 27th, 28th, the organizing committee arranged for the participants to visit the Here East Campus School of Architecture of UCL University, NW Bicester Ecological Town and Oxford University. So far, the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment(SuDBE2019)& International Forum of Green Buildings and Healthy Buildings had come to a successful conclusion.

The 8th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment (SuDBE 2017)
Time: November 4-7, 2017                   Location: Chongqing, China

The International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE2017) was held at Radisson Blu Hotel Chongqing from 4-7 November 2017. The conference was hosted by the National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon and Green Buildings, Joint International Research Laboratory of Green Buildings and Built Environments and 111 Centre of Low-carbon Green Buildings and Built Environments in Chongqing University. It was co-organized by the Indoor Environment and Health Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the University of Cambridge and the University of Reading. It was assisted by the China Green Building Council and other units. The conference chair was Professor Baizhan Li from Chongqing University and the academic committee chair was Professor Andrew Baldwin from Chongqing University/Loughborough University. The conference was supported by China Association of Building Energy Efficiency, China Green Building Council, Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, China Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance for Healthy Building, Green Building Base in Southwest China, and Green Building and Ecological City Council of CECS. The conference was also sponsored by Greentown Ideal Life Technology Group Company Ltd., Shanghai Landleaf Architechture Technology Co.,Ltd and GERSTEL.
The conference lasted for 4 days, with registration on 4 November and sub-forums and technical exchanges from 5-7 November. There were more than 160 participants, including 34 foreign delegates from 15 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Ireland, Finland, Sweden and Brazil. The themes of the conference were Sustainable Development of the Building Environment, Low Carbon Green Building and Indoor Environment and Health. The conference featured keynote and invited presentations. There were five sub-forums: "Heating and Air Conditioning in Yangtze River Basin Buildings", "Green Buildings and Low Carbon Eco-Cities", "Indoor Environment", "Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems" and "Cultivation of International Innovative Talents". A total of 53 academic papers were received from home and abroad, and 66 experts and delegates from home and abroad made presentations.


A group of overseas cooperation experts from the international cooperation base were invited to attend the meeting. Through in-depth communication at the meeting, the overseas experts gained better understanding of the international cooperation base. Many experts, including Professor Howard Kipen from Rutgers University, Professor Ken Parsons from Loughborough University, Professor Tony Day, Director of the International Energy Research Centre (IERC), Professor Hiroshi Yoshino from Tohoku University, have expressed their willingness to spend some time in the future to come to the university every year to participate in the work of the international cooperation base in scientific research and talent training. At present, there are more than 40 cooperative experts in the base, and their participation has given great impetus to the all-round construction and development of the base. In addition, the signing ceremony at the opening ceremony of the conference signifies that Chongqing University has become a strategic partner with a number of well-known domestic enterprises on the basis of international cooperation in the field of green building, which has improved the production-learning-research-application system, and promoted the operation mechanism of combining international intellectual introduction and enterprise investment, providing strong guarantee for the development of the international cooperation base.


The international forum on "Heating and Air Conditioning in Yangtze River Basin" was held in response to three national projects undertaken by the international cooperation base. These projects were: the Sino-British collaborative research project "Low carbon climate-responsive Heating and Cooling of Cities (LoHCool)", the 13th Five Year Plan Green Building National Key Research and Innovation Project "Integrated Solutions to Heating and Cooling of Buildings in Yangtze River Region " and the International Science & Technology Cooperation Program "Key Technologies for Terminal Distributed Heating Systems in Yangtze River Basin". Through the meeting, domestic and foreign experts fully exchanged opinions, jointly summarized the phased achievements and promoted the research work of the projects.
The international seminar on cultivating innovative and talented talents, the summer school and the series of forums have created good learning opportunities for teachers and students of Chongqing University. These activities have deepened the communication and interaction between teachers and students and internationally renowned experts, broadened the students' horizons and improved their international communication ability. It is believed that the international cooperation base will be of great significance for teachers and students to improve their research ability and cultivate innovative talents with international vision, and also play an important role in promoting and supporting Chongqing University's "Double First-Class" construction.
The International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE) was first held in 2003 by Chongqing University in cooperation with the University of Cambridge, and has been successfully held once every two years for eight times so far. The conference has become a brand academic conference of huge interest to international colleagues. It provides a high-level international academic exchange platform for the participating experts and scholars, deepens the communication and cooperation between domestic and foreign scholars and research institutes in scientific research and talent training, promotes international cooperation and expands the international influence of China in the field of architecture and environment.






The 7th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment (SuDBE 2015) 

Time: July 27-31, 2015     Location: the University of Cambridge&Reading, UK


The 7th International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE2015) & UK-China Forum was held at the University of Reading and the University of Cambridge, UK, from 28 to 31 July 2015. The conference was co-organized by Chongqing University, the University of Reading and the University of Cambridge, with the support of the National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon and Green Buildings and 111 Centre of Low-carbon Green Buildings and Built Environments. The British Building Research Establishment (BRE), the China Green Building Council, the China Academy of Urban Planning & Design, the Shenzhen Institute of Building Research Co., Ltd., the Green Building Base in Southwest China and the Chongqing Green Building Council are also jointly involved. About 180 participants from 20 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, India, Korea, Hong Kong and the Mainland of China attended the conference. A delegation consisting of leaders from the Office of Science and Technology, Graduate School, Department of Laboratory and Equipment Management and Financial Affairs Office of Chongqing University attended the meeting.

The SuDBE2015 conference was officially held at the University of Reading at 9:00am on 28 July. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Stuart Green, Co-Chair of the conference and Dean of the School of Built Environment at the University of Reading. Professor Gavin Brooks, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, delivered a speech on behalf of the University of Reading welcoming experts from all over the world. The conference chair, Professor Koen Steemers from the University of Cambridge, delivered a speech on behalf of the conference founder and co-chair, Professor Baizhan Li of Chongqing University, and reviewed the history of the international conference series on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE). The conference was successfully hosted by Chongqing University in Chongqing for six sessions from 2003 to 2013, in association with the University of Cambridge and the University of Reading. This was the first time that it has been co-hosted outside of China.


After the opening ceremony, Thousand Talents Program scholars, Professor Runming Yao from the University of Reading and Professor Andrew Baldwin from Loughborough University presided over the keynote presentations. Professor Peter Head, a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, gave a keynote speech on "Desiging the Built Environment in Cities to Meet the Post 2015 SDGs". Professor Youwei Wang, Chairman of the China Green Building Council, gave a presentation entitled "Research and Development of Green Buildings in China". Professor Howard Kipen from Rutgers University, a renowned expert on environment and occupational health, gave a presentation on "Air Pollution: Outdoors Begets Indoors and Health Effects Accompany". 
SuDBE2015 included four themes: "Sustainable Built Environment", "Low Carbon and Green Buildings", "Water and Ecosystem Security" and "Best Practices and Business Opportunities". There were 12 technical sessions on 10 topics including sustainability, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, energy systems, ventilation and sustainability, building envelope, energy efficiency, green building, energy and assessment, and water and waste. The conference has received more than 150 high-level academic papers, and 10 experts delivered speeches on the theme and topics of this conference. Over 100 authors attended the conference to present their papers.

The closing ceremony of the SuDBE2015 conference was held on 29 July at 4:30 pm. At the closing ceremony, Professor Andrew Baldwin, Chair of the Conference Scientific Committee, announced the names of the 12 best student speakers. Professor Koen Steemers, Conference Chair, and Professor Baizhan Li, Co-Chair, presented the awards to the winners. Professor Runming Yao, Chair of the Conference Organising Committee, and Professor Hong Liu, Secretary General of the Conference, presented the volunteer certificates to more than ten volunteer students who participated in the conference. Finally, it was announced that the 8th International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment will be held in Chongqing in 2017.
On 31 July, UK-China Forum was held at the University of Cambridge. Nearly 50 experts and scholars from the sustainable building environment industry from China and Britain, as well as some student representatives, attended the forum. The forum was co-chaired by Professor Koen Steemers from the University of Cambridge and Professor Runming Yao from the University of Reading. It was divided into two sessions: invited presentations by Chinese and British experts and interactive discussions. Professor Koen Steemers introduced the University of Cambridge and its research results in the field of sustainable building. Dr Jaya Skandamoorthy and Dr Chunli Cao from BRE introduced the application of the UK Green Building Assessment Standard in China. Prof. Baizhan Li from Chongqing University introduced the important role of the National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon and Green Buildings in the UK-China and worldwide cooperation and the ongoing UK-China key cooperation projects. Prof. Alan Short from the University of Cambridge introduced the newly approved UK-China collaborative research project "Low carbon climate-responsive Heating and Cooling of Cities (LoHCool)". This project involved the University of Cambridge, University of Reading and Loughborough University on the UK side, and Chongqing University and Zhejiang University on the Chinese side respectively. Professor Borong Lin from Tsinghua University presented their demonstration project on low carbon building technology demonstration application and evaluation system. Finally, China and the UK have launched active discussions on key technology research and policy standards development in the field of urban sustainable development in the future, and shared confidence in the future cooperation.






The 6th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment (SuDBE)
Time: October 25-27, 2013      Location: Chongqing               

Participants:: more than 400 people


On October 25, 2013, the 6th International Conference on Building and Environmental Sustainability of Chongqing University, the 3rd “Green Building Alliance Conference in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Region”, the 2nd “International Conference on Sustainable Urban Development of Chongqing University”  and the inaugural meeting of the "International Green Campus Alliance" was grandly opened in Chongqing. More than 40 experts and representatives from nearly 20 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Japan, Denmark, Portugal, New Zealand, Serbia, Egypt, South Africa, South Korea and Hong Kong, and experts and scholars from 30 universities in China and more than 10 institutes,and leaders of the provincial and municipal construction departments of the Green Building Alliance in the hot summer and cold regions, and representatives of well-known enterprises in the construction field attended the meeting.




At the opening ceremony, Han Aixing, deputy director of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, gave a keynote speech entitled “Sino-German Cooperation “Passive Room Ultra-Low Energy Green Building Research and Demonstration””; Professor Wang Youwei, Chairman of China Green Building Committee, introduced several issues in the development of green buildings of China; Professor Chimay Anumba, a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, gave a keynote speech entitled “Support for Energy-Efficient Renovation of Information Technology Buildings”. Professor Peter Head, a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, gave a lecture entitled “ creating an ecological civilization through cities and buildings planning and designing ”.During the meeting, the signing ceremony of the joint training and scientific research cooperation agreement between Chongqing University and the University of Cincinnati was successfully held, and a joint meeting of cooperation units of the National Joint Research Center for Low Carbon Green Buildings was successfully held. In addition, several internationally renowned experts and scholars also came to Chongqing University to give eight lectures in the related fields for teachers and students of the building environment and energy application engineering, so that the teachers and students enjoyed a professional feast. So far, the 6th International Conference on Building and Environmental Sustainability came to an end in Chongqing.





The conference set up five sub-forums: “Sustainable Building Environment”, “Ecological Environment”, “Green Eco-city Construction”, “Green Renovation of Existing Buildings” and “Green Building Technology”; Three special sessions :Joint meeting of cooperation units of the National Joint Research Center for Low Carbon Green Buildings, the Hot Summer and Cold Winter Regional Alliance Conference, and the International Green Campus Alliance Conference ;Four technical paper seminars :the Sustainable Building Environment, Green Building, Urban Planning and Building Management, and Ecological environment .The conference has received about 200 high-level academic papers at home and abroad, and more than 80 domestic and foreign experts delivered special speeches.  This conference not only provided a high-level international academic exchange platform for the participating experts and scholars, but also deepened international cooperation, further promoted the promotion and implementation of the theory and technology of sustainable development of architecture and environment in China, and also  provided a learning opportunity for teachers and students in related majors of Chongqing University ,which has great significance for improving research capabilities and cultivating innovative talents with an international perspective.







The 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building And Environment (SuDBE 2011)
World Renewable Energy Asia Regional Conference

Time: October 28-31, 2011    Location: Chongqing,China


     On October 28, 2011, The 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building And Environment (SuDBE 2011) and World Renewable Energy Asia Regional Conference were grandly held in Chongqing. Professor Li Baizhan of Chongqing University served as the chairman of the conference. The conference was hosted by Chongqing University, co-organized by the World Renewable Energy Society, University of Cambridge, University of Reading, University of Purdue, University of Aalborg, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong university and Central South University. The conference was strongly supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chongqing Municipal Government, the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing Municipal Construction Committee, Chongqing Foreign Economic and Trade Commission, China Green Building and Energy Conservation Professional Committee, and Chongqing Green Building Professional Committee, the Wang Kuancheng Education Foundation and other institutions. More than 300 experts, scholars, students and representatives from over 20 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the Mainland of China attended the meeting. Nearly 120 overseas representatives, including internationally renowned university presidents, deans, directors, well-known professors, international society, industry association presidents, international academic journal editors and other international leading experts attended the conference. The conference received more than 500 papers and abstracts, of which nearly 200 papers were included in various SCI and EI journals.

During the conference, the signing ceremony of the China UK Network of Low Carbon Green Building and Eco-City Alliance, the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the Architecture Department of Chongqing University and the University of London College of Architecture and Environment (UCL) and the appointment ceremony of visiting professors of Chongqing University were also held.  This series of cooperation will help build the construction of Chongqing's top international cooperation base, encourage research and education exchanges between China and the UK in the field of low-carbon green buildings and eco-cities, create the international development direction of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of Chongqing University with the faculty as the main body, and to promote the opportunities for university students to interact with internationally renowned experts.

The conference focused on key issues related to building and environmental sustainability and renewable energy use, including six conference themes: sustainable building environment design, building energy conservation and emission reduction and low carbon technology, urban ecological environment and green building, renewable energy utilization and carbon dioxide recovery, indoor microclimate and indoor thermal and humid environment, indoor air pollution control and indoor air quality. In the special guest report and special report of the conference, experts and scholars respectively delivered a wonderful speech around the theme of the conference, which attracted warm applause from the audience. Many participants asked questions and interacted with the experts on the report content. In the chapter field, nearly 100 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad gave wonderful speeches on topics such as “indoor environment”, “green building”, “renewable energy”, “sustainable development”, “building energy conservation” and “low carbon”and clarified their respective opinions. After the three seminars, the participating experts and representatives also conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the topics of “Chinese-English low-carbon cities”, “indoor environment and children's health” and “green building assessment”.

This conference has positively promoted the sustainable use of renewable energy, construction and environment in Chongqing, and greatly promoted the future development of Chongqing's related industry chain in this field.

On October 28, 2011, The 4th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building And Environment (SuDBE 2009) was grandly held in Chongqing. The conference was hosted by Faculty of Urban Construction and Enviromental Engineering of Chongqing University, co-organized by University of Cambridge, University of Reading, University of Purdue, University of Aalborg, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong university, International Sustainable Building Environment Association and Korea Health Building Association. The conference was strongly supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, China Green Building Council, the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing Municipal Committee of Urban and Rural Development and British Consulate General in Chongqing, and received the support of the National Natural Science Foundation project "Theories and Methods for Dynamic Regulation and Control of Building Thermal Environment". Nearly 200 experts and scholars from more than ten countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, France, Estonia, Botswana, Malawi, Jamaica, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and the Mainland of China (including more than 50 foreign experts and scholars) participated this meeting, including fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering, "Building and Environment", "Indoor & Built Environment" and "Building Simulation" and other internationally renowned journal editors. The conference included nearly 200 academic papers, some of which have been recommended for publication in SCI search journals.

 

The main content of this conference is related to the hot issues related to the sustainable development of architecture and environment, including indoor environment, green building and urban ecological environment. In the keynote speech session, more than a dozen well-known professors and experts at home and abroad made the theme of “Green Building”, “Using Systematic Thinking to Learn and Inherit Sustainable Building Environment”, “Energy-efficient Ventilation in High-rise Buildings”, "zero energy buildings—a new concept of sustainable development in the construction sector" and other reports.


In the following sub-conferences, nearly 100 well-known professors, experts and scholars from home and abroad had a heated discussion on the three topics of the conference. Through the exchange of meetings, experts and scholars in various fields have reached a consensus on the frontier knowledge theory system in this field, and put forward the prospects in this field. This meeting will play a positive role in promoting the implementation of “the Habitat Agenda” and “Agenda 21” tasks, and will certainly enhance exchanges and cooperation between countries in the world of sustainable development. It will also have a positive impact on China's ongoing sustainable development strategy.






The Third International Conference on Building and Environmental Sustainability (SuDBE)

Date: September 25-27, 2007  place: chongqing,China


The 3rd international conference on architecture and environmental sustainable development was held in chongqing from September 25 to 27, 2007, which was attended by experts and scholars from Britain, Denmark, Portugal, Hong Kong and many universities in China, the department of science and technology of the ministry of construction, leaders of chongqing science and technology commission, construction commission and representatives of famous enterprises in the field of architecture. There are over 100 participants, 20 experts and 16 foreign guests.

 

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Professor Weiguo Zhang,the vice President of chongqing university, Mr. Aixing Han, the deputy director of the department of science and technology of the ministry of construction, and the vice President of the conference, professor Per Heiselberg,the university of aalborg in Denmark expressed congratulations on the successful opening of the conference and addressed the conference respectively. The main content of this conference is about the related issues on the sustainable development of the built environment, including the environment, building energy conservation, water treatment, solid waste treatment, green building and information exchange and education, and these achieved remarkable results. During the conference, it was fortunate to invite professor Per Heiselberg, a professor majoring in architecture technology and structural engineering from aalborg university in Denmark, as a visiting professor of chongqing university. At the same time, Professor Per Heiselberg and Professor Baizhan Li signed an academic cooperation agreement on behalf of the two universities, aiming at comprehensive cooperation in academic research and academic communication. On September 30th, Professor Li Baizhan, the chairman of the conference, held a summary meeting to analyze and summarize the conference; affirmed the results of the conference and pointed out the shortcomings. The international conference on building and environmental sustainability has been a great success.
The conference received more than 160 papers from domestic and foreign scholars, and more than 100 experts and representatives delivered keynote speeches and read the papers. At present, more than 100 papers have been accepted by SCI search journals at home and abroad, and were expected to be published at the end of the year. This conference would serve as a bridge for communication and cooperation for the sustainable development of cities around the world. It would play a positive role in strengthening communication at home and abroad and enhance it between countries in the world of sustainable development.Moreover, it would also have a positive impact on China's ongoing sustainable development strategy.







"Eurasian Sustainable Urban Development" international conference

 On April 5-6, 2006," Eurasian Sustainable Urban Development " international conference was grandly held in Chongqing. It has attracted experts, scholars and representatives from eight universities in Britain, Denmark, Portugal, Netherlands, Japan, Hong Kong and the mainland, leaders of Science and Technology Division in the Ministry of Construction, heads of Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, and representatives of well-known enterprises in the construction field. There were more than 170 people attending the conference including 50 experts and 20 foreigners.

 


 At the opening ceremony of the conference, the leaders from Ministry of Construction and Chongqing Science and Technology commission delivered speeches and expressed their congratulations to the successful holding of the conference. The main content of this conference is about the issues of urban development, including sustainable building design and construction, urban water resources and solid waste management, information exchange and education, and green building strategy, were discussed in detail in this conference; and remarkable achievements have been made in sustainable building design and construction, urban water resources and solid waste management, information exchange and education, and green building. During the meeting, some experts successively came to our school to give lectures. The chairman of Royal Chartered Institute of Building Equipment Engineers signed a cooperation agreement with the university press. And experts from various countries invited our teachers and graduates for cooperation in academic researches and exchanges. In addition, our university conducted related exchanges and cooperation with the university of Hong Kong and other famous universities in China. On April 7, Professor Li Baizhan, the President of the conference, held the " Wrap-up Conference Of The Seminar". So far, “Eurasian Sustainable Urban Development” international seminar has achieved great success.
This conference would build a bridge of communication and cooperation for global sustainable urban development, thus promoting the implementation of "Habitat Agenda" and "Agenda 21" actively, and enhancing exchanges and cooperation in the field of sustainable development around the world, which would have a positive impact on the sustainable development strategy being implemented currently in China. In addition, by providing a learning opportunity for teachers and students of related majors in Chongqing university, it would play an important role in enhancing their scientific research abilities and in cultivating innovative talents with an international perspective.








The First Session of The International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment(SuDBE)

On October 25, 2003, the first international conference on architecture and environmental sustainable development of chongqing university opened in chongqing. A numer of experts and representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, China and other countries and regions, as well as experts and scholars from universities and research institutes and representatives from well-known enterprises in the construction industry attended the meeting.

  

During the conference, Professor Saffa B Riffat, Dean of the School of Built Environment, University of Nottingham, UK, Mr. Terry Wyatt, President of the Royal Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Professor Nicholas Brooke, President of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Mr. Wu yong, Deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Construction, Dr. Koen Stemers, Director of Martin Centre for Architecture and Urban Studies, Department of Architecture, University of Cambridge, Professor Andrew N.Baldwin, Dean of the School of architecture and real estate, Hong Kong polytechnic university, Professor Chimay J Anumba, Director of Architectural Engineering Innovation Centre, Loughborough University, UK, professor Anthony Marmont, University of Nottingham, UK, and Charl E Janeke, an engineer from KARTAGO in Los Angeles, Professor W.K.C.how, Department of Construction Equipment Engineering, Hong Kong polytechnic university, and Professor Weiding Long, the head of the Department of Building Equipment Engineering, tongji university,etc, gave a wonderful and in-depth academic report on the frontier issues of construction, environment, energy sustainable development, ventilation and air-conditioning engineering, and answered the the question of experts ,scholars and graduate students,and it achieved very good results of academic communication. During the conference, also held a ceremony of awarding Yuanwei Wu and other three researchers of China Academy of Building Research for Senior honorary member of British institute of building equipment engineers(Fellow) by Mr. Terry Wyatt, President of the Royal Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE),and a ceremony of awarding Professor Baizhan LI, Dean of the school of urban construction and environmental engineering, chongqing university for Senior honorary member of the Royal Institute of Surveyors(Fellow) by Professor Nicholas Brooke, President of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). In addition, chongqing university has established formal friendly cooperative relations with many famous universities and research institutes at home and abroad, and has reached a number of intentionality cooperation plans. The university of Nottingham and the university of chongqing signed a memorandum of cooperation, both of them would conduct academic communication and cooperation in teaching, scientific research and other aspects.
The conference was divided into "energy conservation" topic group, "environment" topic group and "construction equipment" topic group for discussion.A total of 74 domestic and foreign high-level papers on building energy conservation, environmental protection and sustainable development, and other related topics had been widely exchanged for studying. It mainly analyzed the new trend of energy demand structure and the impact of energy consumption on human settlements; discussed urban human settlement environmental quality assurance technology; seeks sustainable building and urban planning, designing technology, and promotes the development and utilization of new energy. The international academic conference provided international academic communication and cooperation opportunities for peers in the fields of energy, environment and building energy conservation, and promoted the development of world energy and environmental science and technology and building energy conservation technologies. At the same time, the holding of this international conference has brought great benefits to the promotion of the "211 Project" discipline construction. Through this session, representatives participating in the conference communicated with each other, seeking cooperation opportunities from all aspects, promoting the development of world energy and environmental science and technology and building energy conservation technologies.
